So you’ve figured out some cool new tricks and you want to put together your own Photoshop tutorials to share it with the rest of the internet. Where do you start? Well, for all the support there is out there for Photoshop, there’s not much support for those people offering their support, if you follow our drift. So consider this a tutorial on how to create Photoshop tutorial, or at the very least, some tips to help you make the best possible tutorial.
Visuals Help
You may or may not want to create a video tutorial, but at the very least, use a lot of images. When you do a photoshop tutorial, people like to follow you every step of the way. This really helps them to see how a few simple steps can produce some really eye-popping results. One-Picture-per-Step is a pretty fair formula to follow.
Keep it Short
Whether producing a video tutorial or an article, keep it as short as possible. If you spend 15 minutes showing the viewer every single brush stroke, they will get bored. Alternately, they might get intimidated by a thirty step, twelve page guide. Keep it simple and keep it short. Fast forward or cross-dissolve past all those hundreds of brush strokes and try to make something comprehensive, but short and sweet.
Use Subtitles
If you are doing a video tutorial, use subtitles. It’s all about clarity. No matter how clear your speaking voice, subtitles means that people will not have to keep rewinding the video to listen to what you said again. Some people won’t be able to decipher your accent, they may be hard of hearing, they might be using crummy laptop speakers or they just plain prefer to read instructions.
Really, though, these are all just pointers. If you have some great techniques to share, then all that really matters is that you present them in a clear, understandable way.
